In Conversation with Guest Speaker Priyanshu Mohanty

Priyanshu has completed his Bachelor's degree at Birla Global University and has just begun his career in journalism. Priyanshu has his own digital media company named TCQ ( The Consequential)  and also worked with digital media firms , consulting, and politics, and has knowledge of these topics. He has also worked with an NGO and a support group. We would learn more about the widespread ideas, preconceptions, and real employment prospects associated with public communication, which would enable young people to make more informed decisions when considering a career in journalism.

Q1) Journalism is a full time work. A lot of people have this misconception that it is just a desk job and requires no research . What is your take as a Journalism student on this topic ?

One common misconception is that journalists spend their days behind a desk, writing and editing stories. However, journalists rarely keep regular office hours because they are often called at odd hours of the night to cover breaking news or verify facts. And as a journalist, you need to exercise extreme caution and verify all facts before publishing them, as many people all over the world will look to you for news and the spread of false information might spark riots and other problems. It's important to note that there is huge danger to one's life associated with this line of work. A journalist's work may appear glamorous on the outside, but there are many aspects of the job that the public is unaware of.

Q2) What is the best part about being in the field of Journalism ?

The finest thing about becoming a journalist, in my opinion, is getting to learn about and report on a wide variety of fields and industries, as well as meeting interesting people and helping those whose problems aren't well known but whose stories may be told through journalism. Finally, it's crucial to remember that success in this industry doesn't come overnight, that it takes hard effort and dedication to achieve a certain level, and that you should like your work above all else.

Q3)Advertising is another very important field that is getting a lot of interest amongst the youth. What is your take on this topic ?Have you ever been involved in the Advertisement Field?

Promoting a product or service in the marketplace is crucial in the modern era, and thanks to advances in application and technology, you can now create an advertisement in a matter of hours; all you need is a little bit of creativity and enthusiasm. For sure, this industry will appeal to young people since it affords them the chance to express their individuality, rub elbows with the rich and famous, and make a comfortable living. Advertising is a lucrative industry, but cutting through the competition requires a high level of expertise. I've worked on a couple projects that exposed me to the world of investment, and I have to say, it's a fascinating field to study.

Q4) With fake news spreading via medium like whatsapp , do you feel nowadays Authentic Journalism is fading away ? What is the way to protect this ?

Yes, the frequency of fake news is growing, and many people who aren't aware of this are falling for it and reacting hastily, without verifying its authenticity. This has led to widespread confusion and led some to doubt the integrity of the media. And the spread of false news has a negative effect on real journalism since readers are confused about which sources to believe. One strategy to avoid falling for a hoax is to verify the news' authenticity with a reputable outlet like ANI or the government's official website or the mainstream media.

Q5) If a high school student asks , if they are fit for Journalism or not ,what are the parameters that you think they can decide on ,while choosing this career path ?

To begin, there are no hard and fast rules in this area; rather, success depends on a person's self motivation to learn as much as possible about both their own mindset and the world at large. In this industry, you won't be showered with cash and recognition right away; rather, your skills and dedication will be put to the test. Since self-assurance is crucial, careful word selection is crucial, and intense interest in one's work is essential for success in this industry, those who are interested in this line of work need not hesitate to dive in—if they are up for the challenge.
